In this progressive age, some naïve people are gullible enough to be taken in by promises that popping pills can make their wrinkles vanish. There is no, such magic potions, out of a bottle to make the wrinkles vanish. Wrinkles are traditionally thought to be the most obvious sign of aging skin. But wrinkling actually begins as early as our 20’s and continues at a fairly steady pace for the rest of our lives. We use our facial expressions as a way of communicating with others and recording anger, rage, disappointment, happiness and surprise. These expressions are captured by lines which form in the places that move most. Very few of us get to our 40’s without any of these tell-tale signs. But if you want to prolong your youth, here’s how to lessen their effect. *Splash water on your face. To retain its impact, moisturize to prevent the skin dehydrating. *Never go out in the sun without slapping on the sunscreen-the higher the number the higher the protection it will provide. *If you have tiny surface veins on your face, avoid hot, spicy food and drinking alcohol- these aggravate facial flushing. *Stop smoking. Cigarette smoking may hasten crow’s feet around the eyes and cause deep lines. I followed the exercises and facial massage from the book and the result was that at the age of 85, I do not look my age and I am enjoying good pose and fit body without wrinkles of the ageing. Sit upright on top of your sitting bones with your spine absolutely straight and open your legs as wide as possible. Flex your toes and in case you are not able to stretch your legs, swollen your knees and you can also put a cushion underneath your bottom. 2. Open your arms wide and inhale. As you exhale, twist from waist and reach with your opposite hand all the way over and above your toes. This part of the movement is swift as if you are cutting off the tips of the toes with a saw. The other arm is stretched throughout the exercise. In case you are not able to control your movements you can put your back hand on the floor to stabilize and focus on just the notational movement and movement of all the opposites. Repeat 5 times on each side. 2. Bharadwajasana Pose- All abdominal twists are powerful detoxifier. This pose can be done in several versions, with leg stretched out, seated cross-legged or seated on your heels. Next poses are more advanced, and call for more flexibility of spine and hip joints. Transverse Squeeze- Squeeze-release- 1. Reach left hand behind your back, placing back of hand on the spine. 2. Place the right hand on the left knee. Inhale. Exhaling, twist your torso completely to the left, so the head looks over right shoulder. 3. Keep breathing, holding the pose. Release the pose. 4. Repeat for the other side. 5. Do this, pose thrice for each side. Benefits- *This gives a powerful squeeze to your stomach, squeezing the body’s functions, including detoxification of any junk we consume, like coffee, alcohol, etc. *The transverse squeeze also works on the other organs and glands of elimination and secretion, including the entire Uro-genital system, the spleen, kidneys, and the adrenals (involved with stress management). *It busts constipation, a major problem of those mismanaged metabolism and toxic over-kill. *The squeeze release effect it provides sends a fresh gush of blood into these regions rejuvenating them and hastening the inner clean up. 3. The breathing should be normal, though some suggests a deep, deliberate in-out breath, to enhance the impact on the lungs. 7. Release. Gently relaxing the neck, go back to the floor, as you return to the base position. Precautions: *Avoid in case of severe neck pain. *If you have vertigo, learn it in a phased manner, using cushion or bolster support till the sense of dizziness is weaned away from the body. *Those having respiratory problems should also learn it in a phased manner, though it is extremely therapeutic in all breathing problems. Note- Beginners may find such a deep arch tough, in which case do it only up to your capacity. More focus should be given on the curving of chest and breast pushed upwards. 4. This yoga benefits weak eyesight, watery eyes and haziness are very common eye related ailments that we face these days. Along with walking on wet grass barefoot early in the morning, try facial yoga to strengthen eye muscles, improve vision, diminish lines around eyes and prevent sagging of skin around them. Method: i). Without moving head, look to the left as far as possible for 5 seconds. Now repeat similar action by looking towards right, upwards and then downwards. ii). Take note of the sensation of tension in the muscles that move the eyeballs.*Now close your eyes and relax. iii). Rub your palms together till they get warm and then gently place them over eyes to absorb the heat. Repeat a few times. Facial Exercises: 1. Facial Brahma Mudra is another example of ancient yoga. Facial Brahma Mudra: This facial exercise tries to imitate the face of Lord Brahma by turning your face in different directions. Steps: i) Sit relaxed with folded legs and back straight. Turn your face to the right and breathe normally. Feel the stretch on your neck. Hold for 10 count. Slowly bring your face to the original position. ii) Repeat the same by turning your face to the left. iii) Now push your head back and look up towards the sky. Breathe normally and do the swallowing action with your mouth closed for 7-10 counts. Return slowly back to the center. Benefits: It works on your double chin and neck muscles. Also it removes wrinkles from your face. Yoga for Double Chin: This yoga pose is simple, if practiced regularly, will help you rid of double chin, fine lines and sagging skin around the neck area. You will have a sharper jawline and a well- toned neck. Steps: i) Move your lower jaw and lower lip over the upper ones, and try and cover your upper lip as much as you can with your lower lip. ii) You would feel a strain on your double chin area. Stay for 10 seconds. Repeat. iii) Alternatively, you can try doing the scooping action with your lower jaw, as if you are trying to scoop something out of the air. Exaggerated – Vowels: This is one of the oldest facial- exercises. As it puts all your facial muscles in action, it is extremely beneficial for the lip region. Try and stretch your face to maximum while saying each vowel loudly, putting as many facial muscles to use as possible Do each for 5 seconds. Remedy for Chubby Cheeks: Facial yoga can also solve your problem of chubby cheeks. Steps: i). Close your ears with your thumbs. Place both index fingers on top of your eye brows and close your eyes with the rest of your fingers. ii) Suck air hard through your mouth and inflate your cheeks likes a balloon. Hold for 10 seconds. iii) Release the air by your nose. Repeat twice. Benefits: This yoga improves circulation of blood to the skin texture and brings a glow to the face. Skin Care: We live in a dusty world, so the maintenance of our skin is imperative. -Cleanse your skin at least 3 times a day. Moisturize your skin well by using a good moisturizer. Also, drink plenty of water. -Take a closer look at your under-eye and laugh lines. Do some research and find a good skin cream that works its magic on your skin. The earlier you start the better. -Put on a good sun screen, don't walk out in the open without putting it on. -Once a month, get a clean-up done - this gives added glow to the skin. -Give natural products a thumbs up as they have immerse benefits.
