Karwa-Chath is very important for married Hindu Indian ladies. It is a day of fast, which the ladies keep for the welfare and long life of their husbands and the mother-in –laws give sargi to their daughter-in-laws to eat at drawn before the day comes out. The ladies get up early in the morning and eat Sargi and drink whatever they like until the last star is seen before drawn.
The Sargi includes Fania (in milk), Coconut fresh, fruits, sweets, cooked vegetable with Parantha and nuts – masala cashews and silvered almonds-
Before that the ladies goes to the parlors to set up their hair, have facials, nails and the most important have mendhi on their hands and feet.
In the morning after bath (you have to wash your hair also). To get ready wear festival clothes with a red ribbon on your hair, sandoo and bindi. Then you eat your sargi. After sargi you can sleep and again when you had your rest, put on nail polish at leisure.
Again at about 4 o’clock you have to get ready for the puja, which you do with a group. For the occasion you have to decorate yourself like a bride. This get together ladies like the most. After the puja some take tea, water, milk or anything to drink. But there are others who do not take even water before the moon comes up.
