A visit to Kroger’s Wellness Festival on 22 – 23 September 2023
As I am interested in anything concerning health, I was anxious to visit the Wellness Festival. When my son told me about the festival, which was laid out on the Riverbanks of Cincinnati Downtown spread over almost one mile or so long area, I was interested to visit it. But due to my inability to walk much it was not possible for me to go and visit the fair. My son offered to take me in a wheelchair for the outing.
I was anxious to see what the festival has new to teach us about wellness through food, drinks, disinfections material and pharmacy items. So, we went to the wellness fair and reached there at almost 3 o’clock.
There were more than a hundred stalls of different items of food, drinks, snacks, health concerning many items such as for cleanliness, pharmacy items. Also, several stalls for distributing environment friendly shopping bags from various Kroger’s manufacturers. Here are some of the samples that were being shared. Food such as corn chips, corn puffs, potato chips, multigrain snacks, also soya products like soya milk, ice-creams, yogurt. Then there were booster drinks – ginger turmeric booster instant drink with different flavors. Lemon healthy drink and many other favored health drinks with plenty of mineral water. Tea and coffee were also readymade there and their samples were distributed. Lemon drink was good for me in the sun, and I had soya coffee chip ice-cream. It was a sunny day, and the weather was good for an outing.
There were stalls of fresh fruits too but by the time we went it was finished and wrapped up. We did get green salad and there were plenty of samplers for that item. There was some cooked food also, which was good for your health. We tasted fresh baked cookies made from almond powder; these were like our Indian ‘kathis’ with less butter. I am posting photos of some of the items we collected from the exhibition. While you taste the samplers, there were many live presentations going on as well. This is the Saturday schedule that was meant for all below.
There were lots of people and long lines were there at most of the stalls. The samplers of the items for the wellness were distributed to the visitors. Thus, it was seen that most of the visitors were carrying 2-4 shopping bags full of those items. We were also one of them. Kroger Pharmacy was distributing over the counter medicine samplers such as Pepto Bismol chews and Tums, for upset stomach and acidity for educating and promoting wellness. For hand exercise they were distributing squeezing balls- round and heart shaped. For cleanliness: there were scrubbers, disinfecting cloth and wipes, hand washing soap etc. There may have been many more items, but I was too tired to explore more and left after spending more than one and a half hours. The people were very nice and helpful. There were long lines on each stall, but people were helpful when they saw any disabled person specially in a wheelchair, they either let them get the items themselves out of line or bring the items for them in their turn. There were not many in a wheelchair, yet we came across one. There were media persons taking photographs, one of them asked us to get photographed, he took our photo and immediately send us, which I posted on my Instagram. This outing was one of the most enjoyable and enlightening outings after a long time. This exhibition made me more knowledgeable about the food and the raw material we should use in preparing food for our health. Also it is important to take care of infections using the disinfecting agents.
